It was only cynical and whiny, not depressing.

Leo:So what's up with Furuli? Is he doing a Volume II of his book or not?
Reply: Well, if he does not do a Vol II that will be still be one book more than you and Alan will ever manage on chronology. Sorry but it's true :>) And the Second volume is slated for early 2007 according to Rolf. It would have been out sooner, but you know- he was working a doctoral thesis involving the Hebrew language and all.
Just a quick additonal question for clarification on the earlier question that you were generous enough to answer for me....
So do I read you correctly when I assume from your answer (re: Ezekial's date) that you agree with the WT on the dating of the book and authorship?.(ie, not a post-exile work and forgery by later hands?) -

I too am an active Jw who has read CoC. I guess it depends on your expectation of the brotherhood. I could see how it would effect a JW who has been involved since the 50's than it would someone like me. I always knew that Fred Franz had to wipe his nose after he blew it, had to wear pants (and at times extremely funny T-Shirts) and take dumps. Ie..I knew he was a human.
While it is silly to question Ray's honesty as there is no good reason to do so- as he seems like a highly moral honest fellow, but it is not silly to question his opinion, for instance: when he makes reference to how the GB spends little time praying and contemplating one must wonder if the other 10+ GB members would agree with him, or if this is a rogue opinion hindered by his negative experience. He gives a few examples to bolster his claim, but I would still question it in general. I have no doubt that the Ray Franz incident was handled poorly by the brothers and was an instance of paranoia. I personally feel Ray had views that were not sound, like with structure, and I also wonder if he did not preach this divergent view in Alabama (Georgia? Mississippi?.)
Dozy, I knew he had issues with Silent Lambs and Bill Bowen, did he also defend the "Two Witness" rule?

Council of Nicaea / Arius / Constantine and the Bible
by MissBehave ini've been reading up on the constantine's involvement in the compilation of the bible at the council of nicaea.
as well as the ousting of arius because of his "controversial" beliefs.
it's been many years since i've read any watchtower literature...anyone know what the jw's believe / teach / preach regarding this subject.

The metaphor of course is the danger in the internet..The Red X on the computer screens represents Apostate sites that are regularly viewed in your house, while the Sailor (or seamen if you will) clearly shows someone in your house is waaayy into internet porn. Demons are very methaphorical and ironic.
He is 12, he has an active imagination.

if you would, please give which text you accept and briefly give a reason or two for your conclusions.
i posted this on another forum but realized the only people who care about this are jws and x-jws.

But also note the difference. This woman is motivated to INFLUENCE her daughter such that the DAUGHTER has more control over HER own life.
Over-kill. I have yet to read anything in this situation that suggests the daughter does not/ or is not the master of her own life. If she chooses to let the JW world-view influence her, that is her choice. Just because she could potentially disagree with your world-view does not immediatley suggest a lack of control over her life. . She has the freedom to make up her own mind and I do not discourage her to hear both sides. But once HER mind is made up, it is best not to make an uneeded distraction. THAT could cause problems which is what we are trying to avoid. We want a happy family, which can and does exist between Jws and their Non-Jw families. I speak from experience. We need to be careful not to let crass generalizations (ever present in Carla's post) influence too much. If the Mother (Katy) comes from this area of thought, the daughter will simply (and rightfully) pass her Mothers ideas off as uneducated. If the roles were reversed, you would be making the points in my argument. Would you not?
The mother will appeal to her daughter using carefully thought out questions designed to get her to be open to ;ALL facts and ideas.
The JW will appeal to the daughter by asking her to ONLY look at facts and ideas that support the JW paradigm
This is again a double standard. You automatically assume that the Jw understaning of the issue is incorrect and passed off as the "JW paradigm" (incorrect view forced upon) whereas the other view is based on "well thought out Questions" (ie, not forced upon opinion, but simply the "truth") .The Mother has an opinion based on her morals, so does the daugher.
I see no problem with her Mon giving her opinion, as long as she knows the difference between "both sides" and being stubborn with her own "side" of the coin.
Everyone seems cool in Katys post and she herself seems intelligent, that is why can have optimism.

Well since you have clarified your "good advice", I will withdraw my endorsement from your "not good" clarifications .
Sorry If I mis-read it. Your biases should not make you give bad advice and ignorerules . For instance, if the roles were reversed, you would change your advice based on your biases. That is wrong. People would rail gainst the JW mother. Double standard.
It does sound like everybody invloved in Katys situation (Katy included) has their head on straight.
